I want to get something straight about Majeli and this bull I have read about the terrable things he does, dont believe it. I worked for him this past year. Not only did I not have any problems with contract thru final settlement, but he bent over backwards to meet my requests and demands. You get exactly what is promised when you sign the contract. Some people dont like Oman and can't adapt, Very Happy which isn't his problem or fault. I have worked for several contracts and found him to be reliable, honorable and a really nice person.

How nice that you had no problems... and you are correct that there are people who don't have any problems with him. I don't mean that sarcastically. I'm glad that you have had a good experience this year. But, it is also true that in the last 10 years he has pulled so many shenanigans that have negatively affected so many people, that it is impossible for an honest person to be able to recommend working for him without giving a strong warning. His history in Sohar and Sur is fodder for a book.

Yes, often the problem is that he hires anyone breathing who is not able to cope with life in village Oman. In other words, his hiring shows very bad judgment and little vetting of applicants. But, I'm sure that he makes more money if people don't stay very long. And few of his hires do stick around very long.

It can be said that he does everything he needs to do to get his hires into the country and on the job. Just take care... don't ever cross him.

Dear Vs, You are writing as if you know Majali? Do you know this man, or are you simply writing about this person?

No, I made very sure that I never worked in jobs where anything was controlled by a recruiter. Laughing I have had some good friends and many acquaintances who have worked for him over the years... since the very beginning of Sohar University. He has a history in EFL in Oman... which is why he is the subject of so many posts here.

The whole point of this board is to inform people... of the good and the bad. Readers can choose to believe whom they wish to believe.

Exactly so. They can chose to believe people who actually have current, first-hand knowledge of the subjects about which they post, or alternatively someone who left the region about a decade ago. Hmmm... difficult choice.

Another vote for Majali. I am currently working with him and agree with the original poster.

As I said... just don't cross him... when one has a history rather than just this one year, one knows what these recruiters are capable of.... Suit yourself and good luck.

For entry level people who can't qualify for the better jobs, he is better than no paycheck at all and better than gambling on Saudi low level employers.

Ironic...someone who chooses to go by the handle "pattyflipper" hanging with this guy... One's choice of what to go by is quite illuminating...

You know nothing whatever about me, save what you choose to read into the facetious sobriquet I use on this board. If you would care to exchange CV's, just send me a PM. Not all of us seek to project an image of ourselves as experts on teaching in the Middle East, though some may have greater justification for doing so than others. And in order to pre-empt another of your condescending, highly-inaccurate conjectures, read my last post carefully. I wrote that I was working WITH Majali. I didn't say I was recruited by him.

That certainly explains everything. So, anyone wondering whether they should accept your positive assessment needs to take that fact into consideration.

Buyer Beware...

Dear NCTBA,
Gosh, I thought EVERYBODY knew that already. Salute!

John
P.S. But you do seem to have cut down - on the raving.

Oh yes indeed. Anyone who makes an employment/career decision based solely on "information" provided from posters on this board should have their head examined. LOTS of axes a-grinding here.

Dear PattyFlipper,

"Anyone who makes an employment/career decision based solely on "information" provided from posters on this board should have their head examined. LOTS of axes a-grinding here."

Hmm, "their head" - now that conjures up quite a mental image.

Axe-grinding is sometimes necessary, when, for example, an employer/recruiter is genuinely bad. So, prospective employees need to read ALL the posts regarding their prospective employers/recruiters, weigh the remarks carefully, and then, adding that information to what they may already know, make a decision.
Personally, if I saw many posts by different individuals that warned against a certain employer/recruiter versus one or two that were for, I'd certainly be inclined to give more weight to the former.
Wouldn't you?
Regards,
John

I have an advantage here. I happen, by sheer chance, to know the true identities of both VS and Pattyflipper. The gentleman does not, as a rule, ralate second-hand gossip by so-called "friends" as if it were the gospel truth.

I would also suggest that many of the adverse posts about Majeli have been placed by people who more resemble Frankie the Mad Axeman than those who merely have axes to grind.

Some months ago we had an intemperate post, written thoughout in upper-case bold, from a person who claimed that he was fine so long as he remembered to take his medication, and who was furious because Majeli had not offered him hardship posting pay for working in Sur.
