Let's say you've got a month/two month gap in your professional life. Where would you go in Latin America? |

Aaahh, that's a tough one. I would go to Brazil - one of the southern coastal cities like Porto Alegre or Florianopolis - maybe someplace smaller and inland like Campinas. I don't think I would last long in Rio or Sao Paulo, which I visited briefly. Too much strife... |

Small town Ecuador if relaxing is your thing. Mindo for me, or somewhere like Puerto Lopez if you like the beach.
Or the jungle.
Or Colombia.
Best,

Uruguay is beautiful and very laid back. It's a great place to spend a few weeks. |

I can provide you with details of places in Colombia and Ecuador, where I spent the summer.
In Colombia there are some quiet towns where you can have a peaceful time (places like Popayan and Pereira). If you like places with a more vibrant night life and excitement, then you could do well in Medellin (the city that never sleeps) or a coastal city like Buenaventura which has a very dynamic social life with Afro Colombian emphasis.
In Ecuador, the highland towns like Cuenca, Ottavalo and Ambato are quiet and safe. Coastal cities like Gayaquil and Esmeraldas have a much more dynamic feel, and the coastal people are also more boisterous and party loving. The downside is that coastal cities in both Colombia and Ecuador have higher crime rates, although I did not have any problems aside from having my wallet picked in Medellin on my penultimate day!
Feel free to pm me for more details.
Ecuador is cheaper than Colombia for almost everything, despite use of the us dollar.

I would go Central America. Guatemala maybe. Otherwise, I like Southern Chile. Maybe not right now though. |
