Hi everyone! I hope you're all well and enjoying your summer!

I'm planning to apply for the JET program this coming September, and I was wondering what characteristics the JET team is looking for in people applying for it. Also, what kind of questions are asked to prospective candidates during the interviewing process?

My background is the following: I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and a TESL certificate. My teaching years consist of about 7 including a year and a half teaching on Shikuko island in 2003-2004. When returning to Canada, I taught for a few years and then returned to school to do my College Diploma in Social Work. Since graduating, I've been working in the social service field. I long to return to Japan because I miss it, and I also plan to save money for my Master's Degree in Social Work.

I also want to mention that I'm 38 years old. Will I be considered too old for the JET program and for the interviewers?

Your help and advice is much appreciated!! Thanks!

Grace

You could try searching the archives for the any-of-10000 threads that address the subject.

Grace,

No, you won't be too old. I entered the JET Programme at 37. I also knew a couple whose ages were 36 when we all flew from LA to Tokyo.

You can also check out I Think I'm Lost under the "Applying to JET" section Cool

BTW, the ex-JET who interviewed me in LA was 34 when she had entered!

Good luck!

Search function is your friend. So is Google. Pretty easy search parameters.

As for age, if you had looked at the JET web page, you'd see their age limits.
