|
|
Hello all! I am going to Barcelona on Friday to hunt for jobs and I need some help making a budget.
On a monthly basis what would those of you who live there put:
- Food
- Rent
- Average teacher's income
- Getting around
- Night's out
at?
Also, what would you usually price private lessons at in this area?
Thanks a ton for any help. |

Obviously these prices are always subjective, but here's what I found for me personally for the last year I spent in Barcelona (Madrid is a bit cheaper for rent by the way)...
- Food: go to "Mercadona" supermarkets: average per item in shopping basket about 1.20 euros
- Rent: room in shared flat (central): 350 for small-ish, 450 for bigger, studio appartment 600
- Average teacher's income: 1200 to 1500/month for 25 hours weekly depending on experience and EU papers (no pay over summer)
- Getting around: 10 journey ticket in metro (zone 1, central) - 7.70 euros. Very basic bike from chainstore: 100 euros.
- Night's out : cheap pint of beer 3 euros, expensive 5 euros, average night out 50 euros.
...as I said, this is all subjective, and you can always scrimp and live cheaper. Hope this helps.

I'd say you're struggling to find your own apartment for under 700 euros a month. Add in to that 3-4 months rent that you have to put down as a deposit/agencies fees. |

That's a hell of a lot of pints of beer so what are the options over Summer for those who work in Barsa? Are there even "break even" hours available? |

quote "That's a hell of a lot of pints of beer" ...if only it were only that: then the cheap bar closes, then you go to a nightclub/copas bar, then you need to get a taxi ...trust me, Barcelona is extremely adept at extracting every last euro out of visitors: it's been their business for years!
Summer-wise it used to be possible if you run all over the city, accept any type of student for any crappy wages (talking about private students here), but am not sure if it is now.
Mostly people go off to the coasts/mountains to do summer camps or shoot off to the UK to do the same thing, which is a crying shame as that's just the time when Barcelona is a superb beach city.
