I've been told that I must wait two years (according to Saudi law) before being allowed back , because I didn't depart in the right manner (ie with an exit visa).

Question 1): Will washing the passport allow me to slip back in before then?
Question 2): Any advantage to "washing" instead of "losing" it?

Dear tmcrwfrd,

1. Question 1): Will washing the passport allow me to slip back in before then?

1. It should - unless Saudi has established a data base of fingerprints and retinal scans for absconding EFLers Very Happy (that's a joke, by the way.)

2. Question 2): Any advantage to "washing" instead of "losing" it?

2. No - because "washing it" IS "losing it." The term came about because telling the passport people that you mistakenly left your passport in your clothes and accidentally washed it is the most popular excuse. Having never done it (used the excuse) I can't say for sure, but I doubt people actually send a water-logged old passport in to verify their story.

Regards,
John

Thanks, Johnslat.

I wondered if the "runner crime w/o an exit visa" brings more attention than the "No NOC crime".

And thought perhaps Miss Officiousness 2009, now working at the (any) embassy window would ask for the damaged copy as proof it wasn't on the black market (or something).

Remember, after washing your passport, you must let it air dry for at least an hour before putting it away or the pages will ripple.

Those Saudis! They ALWAYS want things so prim and proper! Rolling Eyes

It's only my TRW!

Dear It's Scary,

My best advice to those contemplation a tenure in the Arabian Peninsula is to NEVER come close to "losing it"!

It's fun taking quotes out of context! Laughing
