I'm a newbie so apologies if this has been covered before. I have looked for it.
I'm thinking of looking for work in Indonesia, specifically Jakarta but I only have a degree in English am I elegible for a work visa without a TEFL qualification.? I have two years teaching experience.
I was thinking of perhaps staying at a guesthouse in Jalan Jaksa.Does anyone recommend anyplace else?
Is much work available at the moment?
thanks, LB |

Hi,
You don't necessarily needs a TEFL certificate. You should be able to get a KITAS without one - many do.
For living arrangements I'd reccommend staying at what's called a 'kost'. Basically it's like a small furnished studio apartment with communal kitchen facilities. It's much better value than staying at Jaksa. Kosts are everywhere, but I tend to recommend Jl. Karet Pedurenan in Kuningan for it's abundance of options and central location. I'm happy to give more detailed information if you decide to make the move. It would probably be easiest staying at Jaksa the first few nights, then finding more suitable accommodation to your liking.
Good luck |

all of what rayman said ...
and try the main road that's over the other side of Jl Casablanca from Karet Perdurenan ... known as Jl Guru Mugnhi or also know as Jalan Karet Kuningan .. .lots of kost's over on that side also
I worked at a school for 5 years with no TEFL qualifications and got a KITAS, so it is possible |

I have a financial dispute with my undergrad uni, but not with my Masters degree uni. I cannot get official transcripts or sealed diploma for my BA in English, I can only provide photocopies. I CAN however provide sealed official transcripts of my Masters degree and of that diploma too. But that Masters is in International Studies. WIll this suffice for Indonesia? I have no TEFL like the OP, and I have 1 year teaching exp in Korea. |

A master's degree is superior to a bachelor's degree. I would just provide the master's. |
