The MoM froze the hirings. At first, it included the rehires. I heard from people already there that they got their renewals only the week before they went on holiday, and this was a month and a half later than normal.

What I'm hearing now is that the freeze on new hires is still in effect. The recruiter is waiting to send my contract until this is settled. The thing is, it's getting close to being too late for new teachers to get in place for the fall semester.

Does anyone have any insight into the situation? What I'm thinking is that if it's a budget crisis that is behind this, perhaps they will simply not fill some positions in order to save money. What do you think?

Don't think my situation will help you much but just to let you know- I'm coming to Oman from Kuwait to work at a MOM college.

The recruiter had me sign my contract in June. They will send me my ticket and visa on Sunday. They never mentioned anything about a hiring freeze... take it for what its worth...

Thanks. I just received my offer a few minutes ago. I think some recruiters pre-hired. I had a provisional offer in June as well, but I was leery, as they never put me in contact with the actual school. So, I waited for another recruiter who had given me a telephone interview with the director, and I knew I had passed that interview. I'm so relieved the offer finally came. Things are going to be hectic now trying to prepare everything in two weeks. Sounds like you are ahead of the game compared to me. Congrats on your appointment.
