hey there, was hoping for some advice.
im applying to an international school in japan for high school art to be taught in english. they're asking for:
Teaching certificate in home country (preferable)
TOEFL/ TESL certification (preferable)
of which i have neither. However i do have a B.A. in illustration from PArsons design school in NYC, and have good work experience in advertising and concept art for video games. I also assisted a teacher at a summer camp for art students in new york one summer as well.
I figure the "preferable" means the certifications arent mandatory, but you'll have to blow them away with other qualifications. what do you think?
any advice on how to make a good impression, even though i lack the teaching experience? When i send my resume and letter, i think ill focus on my education and work experience. It could be a total shot in the dark, or i might actually have a chance. I have no clue. would appreciate any thoughts or advice. |

Perhaps you could send some of your work along with your resume and cover letter? I'd say, without the certification they're asking for and with the market being full of teachers, your chances are not too good. But, I'd be happy to be proven wrong in this case.
Good luck! |
