|
|
Hey all- I was recently offered a position beginning later this year with KOJEN. I've done my research, and it seems like a good place for an newbie ESL teacher to get started. I just have one concern...
Can anyone who has worked for them comment on the amount of hours they assign teachers? I was told they will not guarantee hours, and I am wondering how many hours an inexperienced teacher can reasonably expect upon arrival? Any horror stories of a teacher flying overseas to work for KOJEN and only receiving 5-10 hrs/wk? Just want to make sure that I'll have enough work to pay the bills...
Any experiences/comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks! |

From a Kojen teacher:
"It will take about 3-5 months to build up tot a 20 hour schedule, unless you are going into a situation where you are replacing a lost teacher. Otherwise, you have to wait for classes to be created. The usual start off is 8-10 hours."
Makes me glad I work for El Hess-o. |

I think Kojen is a good place for a new teacher, as you'll be exposed to lots of different ages and levels. They have a set curriculum so you'll know what you're expected to cover. How you teach it and what games you use is up to you. You won't have to worry about being paid on time, as they are really good about that. If payday falls on a weekend or a holiday, they pay teachers in advance. About hours, it all depends. I was lucky to start with over 20 hours, yet I saw others struggling to get enough hours to make ends meet. You should realize though that if you have 20 or 25 class hours a week, at first you'll probably be working double that to do your lesson planning and grading. I can honestly say that working at Kojen helped me become a good teacher. |
