|
|
After a few years working overseas doing TEFL, I did the responsible thing, moved back home and bought a house. That was all of a year ago. Guess what? I want to travel again!
Because I have a mortgage now, I need a job that pays quite well. I like the sound of Brunei and I've read a lot about the CfBT scheme there. I have about 10 years' experience so I probably wouldn't be at the bottom of the scale, I'm single and can live fairly frugally. Would it be realistic to send home about 500 each month?
Any comments gratefully received. Thanks. |

Yes.
If you make up your mind to do it and don't spend all your money travelling and staying in expensive hotels, or tripping over the border to buy booze every second day...fatal that! .....you can save a good amount.
The first year is 'set up' year though and often people save.... not a penny.
After 12 - 18mths...... $1500BND per month upwards especially if you have no dependants. (depends on salary obviously... and how you describe frugal....) |

Agree with Celtica. One thing though - the set up time need not take a year or anything like it. Some people take interest free loans from CfBT to pay for second hand cars, TV etc for their house, and school registration for their kids. If you have no kids, have some cash for a cheap car when you arrive (maybe from selling your own car back home) and don't splash out on too many luxury items for your house (all essentials are provided), then you can start saving pretty quickly. Obviously you just need to be able to live til your first salary comes through. |

Interesting. Would anyone know the rough annual 'out of pccket' cost to send a child (primary aged) to ISB or JIS when on a CfBT contract? |

Yr 7 - 11 diff to pay .........$4050 per annum
JIS : reception to yr 7 diff to pay $8370

These are based on the fees shown online ... www.jis.edu.bn/ and www.isb.edu.bn

Also need to add that JIS need a deposit of $1000, which is refundable when you leave.
ISB require a registration fee of around $3000 per child - NON refundable...
I think CfBT will forward these sums to you and then deduct from your gratuity, but you would need to check that out....
