What are the chances of being placed with a friend in a Japanese eikawa? Both of us will have just completed our bachelors degrees (not in teaching) and will have CELTA certifications. If it isn't likely, any tips on how to heighten our chances? Or any advice on countries or programs that make it easier to travel with a friend. |

Not likely at all. Your best chance would be for both of you to apply from within Japan to a place with multiple openings. Trying to get in at places in the same city or same section of a big city is more possible.
It's often not even easy for married couples to get jobs at the same place.
But try at the big eikaiwas (although there may be a hiring freeze on now because of the economy!) and see what happens.
I've met people who managed it in Korea without too much trouble (due to the huge number of hogwans that aren't large chains that advertise here). |

i think it sounds great to do it with a friend...but the experience of being at two different places would be more of an experience. maybe both in the same prefecture or close to each other would be more fun. your social network could be larger and you can both have a great experience. coming abroad also is to break you out of your comfort zone. coming with a friend you won't get the full experience. |
