Would it be easier to find a job if I am in China?

Hi guys,

I am leaving for China in less than two weeks (on a tourist visa). I haven't yet finished my TESOL certification, but I will by the end of this week. So that leaves me one whole week to look for a job while I am still in Canada.

Like I said in my previous post, I am an Asian-Canadian. So my question is, would it be better that I visit the school personally and get an on-the-spot interview of some sort?

Thanks!
Kathy

So regardless, you will be in China? Which part will you be at? Or do you plan to travel? Before you leave, maybe you should have some files on a flash drive or on your laptop such as a copy of your diploma.

Thanks for the tips!
Yes, I have already booked my plane ticket ... I will be living in Dalian (a city in the Liaoning Province in northeastern China) before I find a teaching job.
I was just sick of living in the same country year over year ... lol

It really isn't easier to find a job "in person" in China. Partly because of the size of the place jobs are all over the place. In many places in China you will have to leave the country (after finding a job) to get "documented" as a worker and have permission to stay here. So you may have to goto Hong Kong or somewhere else. Actually I think it's a pain the ass to find a job here if you don't already have permission to work here. 100% not advised.

"Year over year?"

if you've got a month or two to kill, and have enough money to get you through that period of time, and back home again if nothing works out, then coming to china looking for work might be ok.

only downside is that finding a good job in september/october can be a bit tough since a lot of jobs are filled, and the people who just started at new jobs and who will soon discover that they can't cut it in china, wont have fled for greener pastures yet. you might find yourself taking a job that isn't so hot. but then again, most of us have probably been down that road at least once, i know i have.
