About 60-90 minutes ago,I logged on in order to make a posting to the "PGCE" thread.I regard the topic of proper training for ESL teachers as extremely important - my response is not something that can be done in 90 seconds ! Yet when I clicked on the "submit" button, the "log on" screen appeared again - which, from PAST EXPERIENCE, in effect means that my long, detailed, and may I say,well-thought out respnse, disappears;because that is what happens if I have to log on again.So.is it Dave's policy that one is required to complete one's posting within 10 or 20 minutes after logging on ? I am really annoyed !Remember, that not all of us are semi-literate backpacker "teachers" who get their daily kicks by submitting 30 second smart-a...d comments after 10 seconds of "reflection" ! Many of us have important things to say, things that often take time to compose.
Sorry about the rant.I am really wild.As inferred, this sort of thing has happened before.Maybe, just maybe, there could be something that could prevent me from losing my messages ! Any hints ?

Hit the "back" button, copy your post, login in again, paste the old message into a new reply box and hit "submit".
As you can see, it has happened to me before as well. |

If your post is getting long and you are worried about losing it, hit CTRL+A and then CTRL+C to copy it to the computer clipboard before hitting send. That way, you have a copy to repaste (CTRL+V) into a new "Post a reply" if you have to. |

It sounds to me like you took so long to type your reply that the Internet connection timed out and was broken. This could happen at any connection along the path between your computer and the eslcafe server, so it isn't necessarily Dave's fault.
As others have suggested, when typing lengthy posts, copy the submission to your computer's clipboard before hitting the 'Submit' button. On a Windows machine, just type 'Control-A' to select all the contents of the current window, then right-click and copy to the clipboard. If your message gets lost in the ether, you can paste the note again from your clipboard. |

If Is650's diagnosis is correct then, log in and click the box that says log in automatically. This way even if you lose your connection for a little while you don't lose anything you've written. |

I always open a word doc or my email account. And copy and paste it there before I post on Dave's. I've had the same problems, and hate rewriting everything. |

For anything long, I usually use Word. Besides not losing it, Spellcheck proofreads better than I. |
