I'm aware that the colleges of technology require teachers to do a nine to five but it seems from reading that a lot of office time is actually downtime. Confirmation on this would be great.

Since I'm coming to the ME primarily to save some money and kill of college debt does anyone know the scoop on private tutoring or side gigs of any kind?

What kind of part-time extra work might be available, and then available in Shinas?

I'm actually pretty excited to take a year and work like a dog without the looming specter of neon bar signs to drain my wallet.

You will need to check your contract. Most Gulf contracts has a clause that says that you can take no other jobs... including private lessons... without their permission. It normally isn't given. And in a smallish place like Shinas, nothing you do will be a secret. (and I mean nothing!! Cool )

You will need to discreetly check whether you can get away with it or not. I only did a few private lessons in Oman over the years and those came direct from the Minister of Information's office, so no one complained. It is not like Asia or even Egypt where there are students clamoring for private tuition.

Thanks VS that sounds about right.

Let me add the preface of "nudge, nudge, wink wink" to my question then.

Also - online jobs of any kind. I know I don't have very realistic expectation but I'm looking to keep myself busy, saving money creates a lot of time for a single guy.
