|

I have a job interview next week with a school in Hodonin, Czech Republic. I can find very little information on the town-- not nearly enough to judge whether or not I want to spend a year there! I'd like to know a little about cost of living, activities in the city, etc. I'm early-twenties, and I would like a city where I can have some sort of social life. Has anyone else been here? Any information would be great! |

You'll get more info on the Czech Rep forum, which you'll find easily if you scroll down on the Job Discussion Forum page.
So far as Hodonin, I think you'll find that there's a very small expat community (possibly near non-existent). If you are young and active, it may be too quiet for you - Czechs being generally rather reserved, it can take some time to make friends among the locals, and newbie teachers usually find their early friends among fellow expats.
Cost of living will be better than in Prague, but you may feel quite isolated, I think. |

I spent three months in Prague and it was nice and full of entertainment but that is Prague and you will be in a small small place compared to Prague. But if you are looking for a beautiful place you'll find it there. I even read that over 90,000 visitors go to Hodonin because of its zoo. All of the towns are beautiful and you'll truly get to know the Czech country in a way those in Prague would not. I love the big city but I would have liked to have gotten to see more of the real Czech. The people aren't mean or rude by any means but they have to warm up to you. It's an adjustment but one should expect such adjustments when moving to another country. Also remember that there are trains and buses that will take you to other more populated places.
Cheers! |
