I can get a Work Permit, although the FBI check will be difficult as I'm not in the USA.
SEAMEO has been warning teachers several times that teachers must have a work permit by January 1, 2010.
Teachers that do not have a TESOL or CETLA and a 4 year degree will be fired.
Another language school is saying the same thing, and posting notices in writing about it.
I know some good teachers who have been teaching in Vietnam for years, but they don't have the educational requirement to get a WP. This is the four-year degree.
These teachers may still find work in the bottom-end school in the outer-lying districts, but as for the larger schools such as IPS, VUS, and SEMEO, these teachers will be leaving Vietnam by January 1.
Yes, the authorities tried this before, in 2006. But now the supply of teachers is so high they can enforce this measure.
VN has been discovered. |

BTW, you can tell "those" teachers that they don't have to have a degree. They can get the work permit by proving 1800 classroom hours, however, they should hire a lawyer for this as what are Verifiable hours can be a little tricky.
Also, TEFL is acceptable. |

Some will be able to verify at certain schools, if there are tax receipts, I believe.

Yes, I mentioned this.
A TEFL/TESOL cert/CELTA (120 hours) is *required* along with a BA/BS degree. |

It's not as tricky as you think once you get your paperwork sorted. I'm just annoyed the government decided to put on mine that I'm a woman. I should probably get that sorted at some point. |
