Comparing prices and earnings across cultures is a tricky task. One way to look at the data is to compare how many hours of work are required to purchase a standard set of items.
UBS has been collecting and publishing such data every three years since 1970 and has just issued its latest report, which finds the average worker in NY able to purchase an 8GB iPod Nano after only 9 hours work. His equivalent in Mumbai requires 180, approximately one month's wages. A worker in Tokyo must work 12 hours, in Dubai 20, in Bangkok 66.

Thanks for that. I don't know about anyone else but the only way this information benefits me personally is 1. now knowing how the people I bank with spend their working time and 2. how they are spending their money on gathering and providing absolutely useless data instead of using that money to provide me a better return on my investments and better service.
Thanks again !
Best
