OK, here goes. I got my CELTA (Pass "B") when I was 59 (a month shy of the big six-oh) and have taught in Poland, China, Mexico, and now am in the U.S. where I'm a fairly well-paid part-timer at a local community college and do a bit of tutoring on the side. And of course there's Social Security. My health is excellent, I'm told I look younger although no one ever questions my right to the senior-price coffee at McD's, and I've been thinking I'd like to go overseas for 2-3 years before coming back to the States. I really like where I work now, but that ol' wanderlust is starting to kick in.
The problem is that a lot of places have age limits, probably because they're afraid us old codgers will topple over in the middle of the present perfect and they'll have to pay for repatriation of remains. I'd like to know what countries are still happy to have good, experienced English teachers--I've also done teacher training and have an M.B.A., plus have taught business English (and business as well).
Oh, and I'm female, so that plus the age lets me out of the high-paying jobs in much of the Middle East.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking Latin America, mainly because I could pick up some Spanish. Would love to go back to Germany--I have an EU driver's license and speak the language--but am not ready to tackle the various Amts involved. |

I don't see how being female keeps you from high paying jobs in the ME. YOu might still be able to teach there. Many places have 60 or 65 as a limit. Latin America, as far as I know doesn't really have limits. Maybe try Mexico. |

There isn't much ageism in Mexico, except in franchised English schools which are not worth working for. My oldest colleague has been 73 y-o. |
