There is no way I'm gonna let all these shysters I've been dealing with in the KSA have a monopoly on all the fun.
I'm starting my own agency. That's where the real money is. I'll cut a few deals with the schools that will allow me to do their recruiting busywork and I'll be set. There won't be much busywork on my end, though. All I'll have to do is place an advert here and I can watch the suckers come to me. Suckers who are willing to accept near-blank pieces of paper for contracts. Suckers who are willing to accept deals where they bear costs that are normally borne by the schools. Suckers who will believe every word I say because I, at least in writing, am a 'nice guy'. The up-front costs will be rather low. An office near Washington , D.C....A landline....A cell phone...A connection to the Saudi Embassy...What else? That should be it. I'll force the suckers, er, candidates to foot all expenses and fees.
I'm going to call my agency Al Shaka P.T. Barnum. My motto will be "A teacher is born every minute." Watch for it, boys and girls. |

Interesting you say this, because an American ex-English instructor at University of Ha'il does just that. He came to UOH in 2006 and stayed for 2 years I believe, and then started his own agency. He is always traveling back and forth between Saudi and the US for this purpose, recruiting for several institutions in Saudi, and makes a lot better money this way. But as far as I know, he is not a shady person. He fulfills all the promises he makes and pays on time.
It helps that he has an MBA and previous business experience.
If I knew how and/or I had the appropriate connections, I would do it too.

This is not necessarily bad per se. If the university is going to give SR. 12,000 to direct hires, and give all the other benefits, then a salary of say, SR. 15,000 from a recruiter is fair, because the extra SR. 3,000 PER MONTH will cover the cost of the extras that the direct hire gets (tickets, medical insurance, local transport, government fees, etc.). (I just made up the figure of SR. 15,000... it just has to be the direct hire salary plus the cost of all the benefits) |

It would just cover the housing allowance. |
