I am able to secure a position in Australia (at a TAFE) from April through to November each year. What problems would I have with working half a year in Australia and the other half in Vietnam? Visa, job availablility etc
Would be interested in your comments, and thanks in advance |

Not too many problems.
I am currently doing a fairly similar thing to you. Some time in Oz and then back to Nam for a few months. Its an awesome lifestlye. Make the cash in Oz and go to Nam for a working holiday. Especially with the Oz dallar going the way it is.
Regarding possible problems.
1. Working without a work permit. - No big deal. If a school wants a permit then begin the process and by the time its ready you will be ready to head back to oz. If you cant get a permit find a school that will accpet you without.
2. Visa, cant see too many probs. My mate who does a few months here and a few months there has been questioned a few times on the Oz side of immigration as to why he keeps heading to South East Asia every few months. He just tells them pretty girls. Never been questioned on the Viet side. In fact I try to find the same immigration officer every time I go through. Quite fun really.
Best to get the Visa done in Vietnam for as long as possible. I always get a b3 multi visa as it saves me having to do it in Oz where it is more expensive and takes longer. So just renew before you head back home to oz.
3. Also a good idea to finish up at a school when you have completed a set time with your classes eg. a term, semester or when your students go up to the next level. Not the coolest thing the world to leave your students half way through a paid level.
4. Remember November is just around the corner from TET.
Work wise just find a school thats pretty relaxed and build a rapport with them. I simply send an sms or email to the manager before I come over and he will have my schedule waiting for me. Take into account I have been here a while, but I see no reason why over time it cant be that simple for those who want it. Find a school thats not a huge chain where you can have regular contact with the people in charge of scheduling.
On a personal note, I love the mix and I wish I did it sooner. I work in the schools here and it is so nice to head back to Vietnam after a stint in Oz. I wish many teachers here would do the same thing as a taste of home always makes you appreciate both sides of things.
Hope this helps. |

from what I gather the Vietnamese government is not issuing the 6 month business visas you would likely need. You'd need to be sponsored is what I am hearing from some sources and confusion from others about how it will pan out |
