|
|
does anyone have any info about:
a) teaching at the University level in KSA/UAE
and
b) having/needing a MA in TESOL
vs.
c) having an MA in an actual subject material ( Human Resources, Project Management, Math, Business, Graphic Design, etc)
or
D) would one actually need a PhD to teach subject material in English at the university level in the Middle East
and, yes, I am trying to chart the course of MA in TESOL ( which sticks one teaching ESL forever) vs an MA in subject material (and how does this affect the job possibilities)
thanks! |

If you want to teach content courses, you will need a PhD at the better universities, although a few may sneak in with an MA in that field. If you plan to teach EFL, you need what it says in the ad you posted. By related field, it means that they may look at an MA in writing (since they hire quite a few writing teachers) or maybe bi-lingual education - though that may be stretching it. If you get any further away from that, it will not count as an MA for teaching ESL/EFL. (MBA, human resources, math, design won't count)
Of course, it's all supply and demand, and how high you want to get on the scale. The lower tier private universities are not so choosy. Personally, if you want to teach Business... I'd get an MBA and/or an MA in Business Education... and start saving for the PhD. (or math or design or whatever)

yup, that's about what I expected
I was trying to avoid the PhD track as it is so time intensive and costly-
yet the fact is a decision has to be made
what is the difference salary wise at the PhD level overseas? ME? Gulf?
what about taking a PhD to Europe? University lelve there, or does one still need the language?
in Korea, salary is less than 30% higher for a PhD than with a MA and some BA/CELTAs |
