Hi,
I am curious to know what foreigners, who are Christian, and Japanese people think of foreign wedding ministers.

What do you mean? Do you mean ordained members of the clergy or teachers moonlighting in a cassock?
The latter are very common at Japanese wedding ceremonies. |

I thought this was going to be about the actual celebrants, like the singers in the choir (mock or otherwise).
What is it you want to know?
Some foreigners have PT work (often lucrative) as mock wedding ministers. Some Japanese just want a mock church wedding, so it's actually a big business. |

Do you mean, what do practising Christian foreigners think of the practice of having English teachers 'moonlighting in a cassock' perform wedding ceremonies? |

I know of two people who have done this. Apparently immigration is cracking down on people doing this without the correct status of residence (or permission to do this) and deporting them.
Honestly, I don't really care what they do. They do it and they do a reasonable job at it. I haven't looked into it, although I would have a different opinion about this if it were in a real church, with a real priest (and that is what the couple knew they were getting). I went to England last year and brought back an article in a newspaper about a real priest who was having weddings for Japanese people in his church (and, after paying other parties, pocketing the money). |

IMHO, I think it's pretty corny.

I wonder what the Japanese would think if there were fake Shinto weddings in other countries where some random Asian-looking person was holding the ceremony. lol. |

It's just acting I think. Most people just want a fantasy wedding and probably dont caer if the vicar is fake. That Mickey Mouse in Disneyland isn't really a mouse you know its a bloke in a suit. Same thing with the weddings. IMHO
The only time si when the places advertise with "real life vicar" and if the coupld want a genune religious wedding maybe they would be shocked if it is really just a NOVA teacher moonlighting!

Sort of off topic, but for those of you getting married and want something different, try a Buddhist wedding. Since neither I or my wife are Christians and I'm not Shinto, we had our wedding at Higashibetsuin Temple. It was a great ceremony and well within our budget (around 25 man). Buddhist weddings are pretty rare, so all of our friends and relatives enjoyed it as well. |
