Hello,
In six months my contract in Korea will expire, so I'm just planning for the near future.
After I leave Korea, I am thinking that I will take a CELTA course at the Izmir University of Economics during their July 2010 session. I would like to use the class to somehow secure a teaching job in Turkey, but I am wondering if I could get a job in one of the smaller towns or cities in the Izmir province (ie populations around 100,000 to 250,000 people).
So, my questions: Is there any demand for English teachers outside of the large cities in the Izmir province? How would I go about finding a job? Hit the pavement and start handing out resumes? Would it be innapropriate to ask the CELTA instructors if they have any leads (not phone numbers per se, just rumors/news as to what small town or city needs a new English teacher)? Is July/August a good time to go job hunting? Should I know some Turkish phrases before I go looking for a job?
These are all the questions I have for now. Thanks for any help you kind souls can provide.
Necessary info:
American
BA
1 year experience in Korea
Will have CELTA (or some sort of TEFL certificate) by the time I start looking for a job |

oh God why would you want to?
a city so small to have only 100,000-200,000 people will bore you to death. You can forget about anything of a nightlife or a girlfriend, because the smaller city are conservative. YOu would be the only yabanci in the town probably and you would barely make any money. Stay in Izmir and work, that is a fantastic city. You could go to Eskisehir, a great University city with lots of students and a lot of people speaking English. |
