Hello all!
I know this topic pops up in a lot of other threads but I thought I would just make a new one to culminate various peoples advise about the best way of going about getting a teaching job in Spain now.
Me - I have just recently finished a TESOL course in London and now would like to work in Barcelona, Granada or Madrid. I have been sending out lots of emails with my CV but am currently getting very little back. I am wondering if it is better to phone or even better to go there for a few days?
Obviously from the money perspective I would prefer to sort a job out before moving out there so do you think this is possible?
I look forward to hearing your opinions and advise!
Thanks!

I'd say you definitely want to be here now, in September, to give yourself the best possible chance of getting a job... and be prepared to be here for 2-3 weeks.
... and be prepared NOT to get a job in the end.
Sending CVs to schools in Spain from the UK or elsewhere is a waste of time. I'd say the only chance is a job advertised in the UK, or on somewhere like tefl.com.
But be here...! |

Like the man says, be here: you need a local mobile phone number to have any chance of a school giving you a serious offer, as they have to be sure that the teacher they have organised for a class will turn up at the advertised place at the advertised time and if you're not even in the country yet then that's by no means guaranteed for them.
Some schools will get in touch with you for potential interviews if they like the look of you, but no school in their right mind would hire anyone without getting them in the office in front of them to make sure you don't smell, have strange ticks or are clinically insane.
Companies are fine if you are in a hostel looking for a room/flat, but the local mobile phone SIM card is a must.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for all the advise, really appreciated. I will get some cash together and head out there and get a job!
I would like to ask simply out of interest if anyone has any opinions about BCN Languages and can say what they are like to work for etc.
Thanks again. |
