Hi Everyone

I read on another thread that Jan/Feb can be a good time to look for positions. Do employers hire then? I was under the impression that they hire in the summer for fall.

The reason I am asking is because I decided to look for jobs on a whim in July, so I the reputable employers had already hired. I did get offers, but the employers seemed iffy, so I have decided to wait until next year and start searching early.

So back to my question..is summer the best time to look for jobs, or is there another time of year that employers hire?

Dear wanna_teach,
In Saudi, I'd say the best time to apply for fall jobs would be in January or February, the best time to apply for possible jobs in January would be August or September.
The reason you need to apply so far ahead is that the whole process of getting a visa, etc. can take so long.
On the other hand, it's something of a dilemma because at some places, if you DO apply that early, your application can get "lost" in the meantime.
Regards,
John

This year most of the jobs advertised were for positions starting in September. I started job hunting in March and got hired in August. Schools in the ME also prefer you have at least a BA and CELTA before you apply.

John makes a very good point: Applying for jobs well in advance isn't always the advantage you might think it is. Many places don't see the need to follow up on applications until the last minute, so even if you send off your CV in January you might still find yourself rushing to get the visa and flights in August.

Still, it can't hurt to send off your CV well in advance. There are a few well-organised places and they may get back to you quickly. However, don't be despondent if you dont' immediately hear back from any of the places you apply to. I'm sure most people on this board can tell stories of receving last minute, emailed job offers from places they'd forgotton they'd even applied to!
