|

I've just been told that dependent husbands cannot be supported by women under current immigration laws in Brunei. I hadn't heard of this and it puts us in an impossible position as I am the one with the PGCE and he has the CELTA & DELTA. It seems impossible for him to secure work before arriving, so does that mean our plans are completely scuppered? |

Where did you hear this? There are many dependant husbands here, so it would be a new thing if it is indeed true.

I don't want to be specific and pull the name of the person into question, but it was a potential employer, so I am gutted if this is the case for all employers.
If it is the case, is there realistically any way to secure EFL work before arriving in the country? I really want to work for this employer and I don't know if it is a recent change to the law...
It's a bit presumptious of me to ask further questions, as I don't want to annoy the person in charge. |

Hi
There are certainly teachers here with dependent husbands, so worth sending off your CV to other employers, even though one has knocked you back. CfBT do have teachers with dependent husbands - although maybe the situation has changed, as Celtica suggests. I haven't heard that it has.... Worth applying anyway, I should say.....
You will not be able to set up any proper teaching contract for your husband if he does not have QTS. He would need to be on a dependent visa....

Thanks for that. I heard back from immigration (Brunei) just now and they said that it wasn't the case. Must be a school policy or an old one that they weren't aware had changed... |
