So I heard this morning that King Abdullah issued an edict yesterday (which was e-mailed to educational institutions) saying that the univeristies are going to start 2 weeks later than originally planned So now I think the start date is somewhere around the 31st of October...
For everyone who is waiting for their visa (including myself) it seems that you may be waiting even longer due to this new development... but don't lose heart just expect to be in Saudi towards the end of October...

SNAFU...original meaning as an acronym. This kind of last-minute change is most normal, and it is what drives many teachers in KSA over the edge. |

FUBAR <---used widely in the military but given all this visa shenanigans well I feel it applies here. |

Thanks Lizzie and the rest for the info, dates and developments, unfortunately it is causing me major, major inconveniences to be leaving so late, so Im not very happy at the moment.

I know what you mean Linda, I am without my husband which has made me sad too... We made the decision that he will fly to me as soon as his visa is processed because it was getting to much!
But all this is taking it's toll financially and I don't have the money to just enjoy life for the next few weeks so I have gone to the library picked up some books (free), joined a gym for 3 weeks (has an indoor pool) and just go swimming, exercise and sit at home reading or surfing the internet!
I suppose I gotta get used to a quieter life than this... so this is good practice lol! |

Hey there, conflicting reports... Recruiter told me one thing and then Stephan Jones pointed me to this article! Not sure which one to believe as he told me about the university thing this morning and apparently the e-mail was sent yesterday...
I guess we just have to wait once again! Perhaps you will be leaving sooner than expected!

Marhaba everyone and As-Salamu Alaykum!
I also signed with ISM/EDEX (for KAU in Jeddah). Having worked in Saudi Arabia (and other areas of the Gulf), I've come to find out that delays and communication issues are all part of the M.E. package, I'm afraid.
It seems there are a lot of people who are waiting on their MOFA visa invitations! This is the first week after the holidays and they will be very busy. I don't expect anything to happen until after October 1st.
In the meantime, I'm wondering about housing... |

Ahem...if I might...lizziebennet's query was not answered by hope 3809's strange response that introduced another non-explained acronym to further muddy the issue.
SNAFU = Situation Normal, All (for the sake of the kids who might be reading this thread) Fouled Up.
FUBAR = (Again for the sake of the kiddies) Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition.
FYI, BTW, IMHO both acronyms apply aptly to the kingdom of pain.

Oh as far as an answer to lizziebennet's query...you got me there. I'm just going one day at a time and learning as I go. Cheers! |

This will only multiply your aggravation later. Like when you get there and the employer wants some document that you need, which you have to then go dig up. You COULD have dug it up when you had all the idle time...if you would have known they were gonna want it. |
