It has come to light that about three of the Filipino office staff has been deported because they were there on Business Visas. He puts his teachers on Business Visas. Hmmmm. Will you be working and get taken out of your class and to the airport.

While we all know that 'Westerners" get treated more leniently than Philipinos, this story - if true - confirms my fears about working long-term on a business visa. In doing so, you put yourself in a very precarious position, as your very presence in the country is illegal and you forfeit even the minimal rights accorded to teachers on full working visas.
There are situations where employers have little choice other than to bring teachers in on a business visa. However, unless you get a solid, written guarantee that the visa will be converted to a proper work visa, with iqama, as soon as possible after you enter the Kingdom, do not even consider the offer. |

| If you do come in on a Business Visa and things go South on you the employer,in this case it is IH, can just not show up if he so chooses. Then it takes another month or so to go through the labor court process again. You are stuck with no place to live and no income for that time. How long can you survive in that mode. So, do you request a regular working visa or wait it out by going through the labor courts. IH has this down to a science when they realoly want to $crew someone over. In this case I imagine they just ignored it until the Govt. came in and deported the people. |

Such a thing does not exist! Furthermore, since you are technically illegal in the country, you can't even go complain in the labour office! So, the ideal situation is never to enter the country for full time employment on a business visa. |
