I will be teaching in Bali for a year and I was wondering if I should get a prescription for methloquine? It seems like a pretty insano drug to take weekly for a year, so I don't want to take it if it is not necessary. Does anyone know the status of malaria in Bali?

Thanks Confused

Zero malaria. Bank on it. The surrounding islands do have it, Lombok and the Gili islands have not eradicated malaria.

The best person to ask for medical advice is a local doctor - but I find it very hard to believe there'd be much likelihood of catching malaria on Bali!

BTW the number one killer of foreigners in Indonesia is motorcycle accidents, so be careful when climbing on the back of an ojak! Shocked

Cool
I caught Dengue fever in Bali, and was delirious for a week. There maybe isn't Malaria in some parts of Indonesia, but all areas carry some risk of dengue fever.
