|
|
Hello everyone,
I received an irrefutable offer from a company in KSA. They want me to get a "temporary work visa", until they have an "employment visa" for my country. That's because, they want me to join company sooner. I'm a little it uncomfortable with not getting "employment visa" later... They told me that this situation is very common in KSA but still I'm not sure about their insistence on "temporary visa"...
Is there anybody sharing such an experience?

Dear TurkOwl,
"I received an irrefutable offer . . ."
I'm not quite sure just what an "irrefutable offer" is, but, if you search this forum, I believe you'll discover that a fair number of teachers are apparently being offered jobs with this "temporary work visa."
I just tried searching using "temporary work visa" in the Saudi forum, but the search function doesn't seem to be working right now.
I'd be a little leery myself about going on a temporary work visa; I think there are a lot of uncertainties there, But it all depends on how much you want the job.
Regards,
John |

Dear Johnslat,
I feel, it will be good for my career of accepting this offer... But I'm still not sure for living idea in KSA since I have to leave my wife for along time...
I searched "temporary work visa" in forum but I couldn't find what I'm looking for exactly.
They just explain how to get it.
Regards

Dear TurkOwl,
Yikes - 35,800 a MONTH. You certainly can't be a teacher. There are plenty of teachers in Saudi who are separated from their loved one and getting little more than 1/10 of that.
Haven't you ever heard that absence makes the heart grow fonder - especially if the absent one is making BIG bucks?
The "Search" function i was talking about is right here on Dave's, but I just tried it again and it STILL doesn't seem to be working.
But these "temporary work visas" seem to be becoming popular in the Kingdom.
Regards,
John
Dear NCTBA,
If TurkOwl's making 34,800 a MONTH, the "new boss" is certainly not one of my or your "old bosses." |

Dear trap,
Yup, for example, you could buy a Mac and stop beating your head against the keyboard.

Well, I had assumed that Mr turkowl wasn't an English teacher... and 38500 per month proved me right on that one.
Engineer?
It is hard to know if the whole visa thing works the same for non-educators.

I should have known you were a Mac man!
I've been working all week on Mac with my music and pictures, while my sister has been fighting her new PC, with Vista and Norton fouling everything up. The failure of her Norton caused her apoplexy, as she has every reason to be afraid of viruses. It has been stressful for me just watching her. She will get a head of steam up with her work, and Vista decides it is time to update something and cut her off. Her data base for her business mysteriously lost whole files, which she never sorted out, and she has to re-enter 4 month's of data- and it has been taking her hours everyday.
I think if she loses it, it will be the computer that gets the worst of it.
Her husband is now wanting to road test my Mac Book. |

I'm not a teacher... I'm an engineer...
Especially what I wonder is why do they want me to take "temporary working visa" since they sent me an offer for "permanent basis"...They say they will replace visa type to "permanent basis" later but I'm a distrustful person...

Dear TurkOwl,
A healthy amount of skepticism will not be amiss in Saudi. The problem is that these relatively new visas seem to be becoming much more popular these days - one reason, perhaps, being that it likely takes less time to "process" them through the system (although, as they become more prevalent, that may also change.)
So, as usual, no "blanket statement" can, I think, be made about the "reliability" or "trustworthiness" of employers/recruiters who are using them.
As I mentioned, I'd be a little concerned about going with such a visa, but
it's really a crap-shoot. Maybe the employer/recruiter will be a decent one, maybe not.
Unless or until someone on the board has had previous experience with that specific employer/recruiter, how can we know?
Regards,
John |

TurkOwl, why don't you ask your future employer about the visa confusion. I am sure they can clear it up. What I think is that the temporary visa is just to bring you in to the country. Once you are here, they will apply for a Labour Card and an Iqama (residence permit) for you. |

Dear trap,
The question is - is this "temporary work visa" the usual three-month visa that most get on their entry into the Kingdom or is it the kind of "temporary work visa" that seems to be making an appearance on this forum more often, the kind where you have to go to Bahrain sooner or later in order to get your "real" employment visa?
Regards,
John |
