Hello all.
I am new here, so please help me out.

I am 19years old and I have no degree. I want to go live in Mexico next year with my boyfriend, who is Mexican.
I am from South Africa and without a job in Mexico, I can't stay there for longer then 3 months. So I need a job, to get a working visa.
Because I have no degree or TEFL, there is no work out there from me. The only thing i found was a charity case were I would have to pay $100 to get onboard. Is this a scam?

Well, I am clueless. I don't know what to do anymore! How can I find work without any degree behind my name ? Or should I marry him? haha!

pease help!

For a start, most people entering Mexico now get a 180 day visa that gives you a bit more time to get sorted.

There are two possibilties:

1) You can get a visa as an economic dependent of your boyfriend. To be honest, I don't have any experience of this, so maybe someone else will fill you in on the details

2) As a native English speaker, there is always work teaching English - perhaps you can get burnt a few times, but you will be picking up experience, which will lead you to a decent job sooner or later. You will have to be here to find those jobs - you are not going to be hired from SA!

To put it in perspective - I followed exactly that path. I have no degree or teaching qualifications, but using commonsense and the openings I found, I now have a very good, secure, well paid job.

Good Luck - you are young enough to ride your luck a little!

Getting married makes a visa to stay in Mexico much easier.

Few schools will hire somebody with no TEFL, degree, etc. Esp. being under 20.

Your best bet is to take a TEFL course in Mexico. It will give you basic training and show you're much more serious about teaching in Mexico.

Like Phil said somebody, somewhere will hire you (even people with tons of qualifications do better being here in person) but your options will be limited.

There are always jobs in Mexico City, but many other areas are much more limited.

Don't pay somebody to be a volunteer. That's a ripoff.

I know....
well iIdon't believe I can apply for a working visa from Mexico.
South Africa and Mexico have no real connections and not many South Africans go there, so the are full of rules and regulations. It's not like Chile and SA, that work together because of the wine industry.
So..... it's a sticky one for me.

Actually, it is much, much easier and more common to apply for a working visa when you are already in Mexico.

The usual pattern is to arrive on a tourist visa and then apply for permission to work when you have found an employer to sponsor you. At least thats the case for people from countries who dont need visas in advance for Mexico; I dont know whether it would be different for someone from South Africa.

If you get married you have the option of applying for a resident visa as an economic dependent of your husband, if he can prove that he can support you economically. If at any future time, you find an employer interested in hiring you, they can then sponsor your change of status from economic dependent to authorized to work.
