hi all,
was it scott47? stephen jones? sorry, someone this week posted the start dates for schools in KSA, with oct 3rd being the start date for the universities.
this date was just confirmed to me via an email from a person in saudi as the start date for al-jouf. perhaps i am the only one out there hyperventilating about missing the first days/week of school. nothing to be done about it at this point. ramadan and the following week-long holiday (EID?) at the beginning of the semester sure has thrown a wrench in the works, eh?
was told that the first week is relaxed, add/drop time. my vision of US coeds when told that the teacher was going to be a week late would find them on the lawn, tanning and drinking rum and coke out of coke cans. i have NO idea what saudi 'coeds' do to relax!
anyone else out there concerned about missing the first days? has it happened to any of you seasoned posters? just curious!
good day, all,
leezer

First days? It's not that rare for new teachers to arrive several weeks late. |

There are at least half a dozen threads going right now including information about start dates. Much reference to a notice from King Abdullah delaying the start date to Oct 31.
Is that for everyone? Only the shadow knows... and he's not telling. My advice is not to worry about it because everything is out of your control. Just relax and go with the flow. You'll get there when you get there and by January everything will be settled... well, most everything.

do the students have substitutes? given the days off? do workbooks and self-correct? i know that i have to let go of my US way of doing/thinking when it comes to the classroom, and i will do so. it's just all so different, foreign (no pun) at this point.
anyway, cleo, what i'm getting is it isn't unusual for these sloppy starts and the students/teachers survive. sounds like the unspoken here is to let it go and go with the flow. maybe i'll take up running again to burn this scattered energy that surrounds me!

vs,
i picked up your energy. you are writing about relaxing and i am simultaneously musing that i need to get with the program and go with the flow. probably wouldn't hurt me to go for a run anyway. i'm an 'anxious' eater and my jeans are feeling tight right now (tmi for the guys, the gals will understand!)
thanks,

And no evidence of this whatsoever. As leez has said here, and I've been saying since I heard it, the start date for classes remains October 3rd and the start date for new staff was September 26th (or even August 29th as for old staff). |

Leez-- I am right there with you with regards to coming in either on the day school starts or a few days after and although it's not what I (or anyone for that matter) would desire it's out of my control. The comfort I get is that it's not just you and me...but rather a score of others that will arrive to the KSA late as well. So...there will be more than just two newbies running around like chickens with their heads cut off! lol
Try running...it has always done the trick in keeping me from going (completely) insane.
Cheers! |
