It appears I'll be entering KSA on a Business visa. I know this is done all the time. Can anyone give me a crash course as to what should happen to get it changed, and what I'll encounter while I'm waiting? TIA

Are you planning to work in KSA for the longterm? If you plan to change to a work visa it is impossible to do so in country (unless you know the king or someone very powerful). Normally, you will have to return to your country of origin to process a proper employment visa.

If you go to KSA on a Business Visa and work for a University or Company, they can easily screw you over. Working in the Kingdom under a Business Visa is illegal. You won't get an Iqauma (identification). So you will not be able to open a bank account, send money, or just about any normal thing.

I heard it is possible to get your work visa in Bahrain, but it is more difficult I guess. In any case, changing visas will take many months to go through all the red tape.
