I was just told today to bring my degrees with me, even though I've already sent a copy and am having official transcripts sent from my schools. I'm reluctant to transport those shiny pieces of paper, did most of you end up bringing them with you when you went to the ME? |

Yes, I brought both of mine, which are small and enclosed in padded folders. Yes, it's an old-fashioned way of doing things, but universities in Oman and some in the UAE (AUS , for example) really require the original highest degree certificate before you can sign your real contract (as opposed to the provisional one they may have sent you with your job offer). You may have to get your degree copied and authenticated at your local consulate or embassy and then go to the Omani government Attestation Office to get their stamp of approval too. |

Yes, that is the usual. They keep the copies, but verify them with the originals. BUT, don't allow them to hold them or even leave them. They were always inspected in my presence. You don't want to give them the opportunity to lose them. The file of originals was with me the whole time I was in the Middle East.
