For those of you who are brave and ENJOY getting akasuri done (professional scrubbing of dead skin off entire body), what places might you recommend for it in Osaka? Not all onsens offer it as an additional service, so any ideas of places (that are decently priced?) would be appreciated! Thanks~

Hello -

Yes I was very brave and I did the akasuri several times in Osaka. I went to two places in Osaka that offered. You can get an akasuri scrub for 5,000 yen for 45 minutes or 90 minutes for 10,000 yen. I loved it but it is just rigorous. They scrub and hit until you are all red. I am now in Israel so I don't remember the exact places in Osaka but I remember the one I liked most was closed to the center and it was not too far from the SW language school. It was called the Osaka Capsule hotel that had onsen and akasuri. Quite a few capsule hotels have akasuri. Also, the Qua house in Kobe and really good akasuri but they only gave 30 minute sessions. There was also an onsen over in Nishinomiya that I went to that had akasuri as well. The rough scrub is all over the place in Osaka area.

I went to an onsen in Maizuru as well that gave me akasuri and they scrub my stomach until I am red. There is also a huge onsen near the train station that has huge sculptures and you feel like you are in Greece with all the statues - They have an herbal akasuri session and I requested oil and they practically twisted my stomach as they put the oil on. In America, this would be like an erotic massage. It might even be considered prostitution in America because as a client you are nude in front of an attractive Korean woman. She just pretends you have clothes on while she gives you the massage. Japan sure is something else. I have tried akasuri in Osaka at capsule hotels, large onsens and in small towns. I did a good 5 and a half years in Japan as a teache and it helped me get a good job in Israel where I currently live. I just got annoyed with employers who would not give renewals and not tell me why.
