Hello,
I'm a CELTA holder with a Bachelor's degree, teaching at International House in Colombia. I'm thinking of working here until the end of the year, at which point I will have about 2 year's teaching experience, and then getting a Masters in order to teach in reputable, good paying Universities abroad.
There are Masters in TEFL for adults, but I'm thinking of getting a Masters that would also help for finding work in public schools in the USA, ie a K-12 degree.
Is anyone working in Universities abroad with such a K-12 Education degree in English? Would there be a definite advantage when applying to University jobs abroad in having a Masters TEFL for Adults, or do they simply want to see a Masters in something related to English education?
I know people with Masters in Education here, but they are of the K-12 variety, and they have been successful in finding work in non-University settings, but I don't know anyone actually teaching in a University.
Thanks for the help,
Jacob |

Well the whole idea behind an MA in Education is geared toward K-12. So I wouldn't count on teaching at a University with that degree, unless it is a teacher certification class which you are teaching. |

At my university there are a handful of people who taught at K to 12 schools and then made the jump to uni. So it IS possible. The fact that you'll have a CELTA and experience will help. Some unis wants an MATEFL, others just want a masters in something.
What country are you looking at teaching in? |

Well I'm interested in alot of countries, right now I'd say Turkey Mexico Brazil and China all seem cool. But who knows what I'll say in 4 years. I'm looking for something that'll help me be flexible.
Where are you located that you've seen K-12 Masters holders teaching in University? |
