|

Hi
I have been in Madrid for 4 days or so, and have applied to about 15-20 schools. I have had one interview, and one reply to my emails. Both schools said they'd essentially filled their positions already but would keep me on file.
I have a 'first class' BA and CELTA 'pass B', but as a recent graduate no experience other than CELTA. I am British, so no papers problems.
I just wanted to know what I should expect? I know the main hiring period is the beginning of september not the end. So what are my chances of finding a job? I also know there is quite a bit of work you can get without a school - taking private classes, and doing ad hoc in-company stuff, but I'd really like a to work in a school at least part-time, as I have none of my own resources and I would like the job security (at least for say 10hrs a wk).
Are my expectations unrealistic for Madrid at this time? Thanks for any help given to this struggling newbie !! |

This has to be THE slowest season start anyone I know can remember here: seems to be the same in Barcelona too. There is work out there, but it is coming in very late and in dribs and drabs: don't lose heart, the market here is still huge, and so arriving here late may actually be a blessing in disguise.

There should be more hours opening soon i hear. I've received hardly any of the same classes from my last year because their course is starting later. I guess it's just a matter of hanging in there.
EDIT: Also if you're new in Madrid, I'd be happy to meet up for a drink. I made the mistake of hanging around with erasmus students last year and as they've all gone back home the list of people i know has diminished a bit. |

Hey,
I was in Madrid last week for interviews and I handed my CV out to about 15 schools and have not heard anything yet this week. I am considering just moving out there but I am wondering from others experience do you think this is a big risk financially or not?
Thanks and good luck to all teachers looking for work! |
