My local police station would not give me a report.
So I went online to "Certified Background Services Inc" I paid 12.95 USD. All I got was a puny print out that has my first and last name and states "No Criminal Records Found for" Then it states "DOB Match Type" "Data Source" and "Address" and those headlines had NO information under them. Is this worthless? |

Probably.
The police report was a hang up for us too. We filed (New York State) under the exact rules of the state. Paid $50 and sent the info to the Department of Criminal Justice of NY. We got the report back in a timely manner. Sent it to our visa coordinator who submitted it to the consulate in DC.
It was refused because it didn't have a raised seal. We contacted DCJ again and were told that is the official NYS police report. However, they overnighted to us (at no charge to our shock) a raised seal statement that that IS their official Police Report and the consulate states they will accept that. I am in full doubt mode that when push comes to shove Monday and they are getting ready to stamp the visa that they really WILL accept it.
But the point is--they are sticklers on the police report. |

Dear gorkomi,
If you're in the USA, have you tried the State Police - or, if available in your area, the Sheriff's Office?

That is so true! They want raised seals. Saudi loves official looking government stamps on everything.
BTW, you don't have to get the police report in the state where you currently live. I lived in at least five different states and I just picked one with the simplest procedure. The Saudi Embassies have taken that one without any problems. I asked if they wanted more and they said, 'no.' I brought some from the other countries I've lived in too, but they didn't want them. |

Dear Kalima Shahada,

This surprises me a bit since your employment contract will have your "home of record" on it - which, by the way, determines the destination of your annual summer holiday plane ticket.
So, I have to wonder if your getting the police record from that state with the simplest procedure is going to have any effect on your holiday plane ticket destination.
Regards,
John |

| Wish I'd checked here before racing to the police headquarters. They gave me a print-out and stamped it. No raised seal. I am about to start cursing. I mean, the Saudi Embassy requirements are psychotic, and that is the only word that seems appropriate for what they are. I think if they call me and say "It must have a raised seal" then I am going to race to Hallmark and buy some Strawberry Shortcake puffy glitter stickers, fed ex them, with a note telling them I've sent 2 sheets of 12 raised seals each, have a field day with them, and send me my #$&*()@ visa already. |

I've got a worry about getting the Basic Disclosure from the UK. On the website it says they will only provide it if the applicant has been at the present address for 12 months. I've been travelling for the last year and before that I was working abroad.
Anyone had any experience/problems with this? Officially I'm not currently 'resident' in any country! |

We had somebody who had to drop the application because he couldn't get the CRB because of the lack of residence.
My advice to people is to get a record check whenever they leave a country. |

| Mmm, not encouraging. I guess I'll just have to wait and see and hope I get a nice (or incompetent!) person doing the check! I've got an old one but it's 5 years old so I don't suppose anyone would accept it! Maybe I shouldn't have been so honest on my application form... |

Incidentally Englishish if you're applying through the Saudi Embassy in London you don't need a criminal records check. Here are the requirements.
http://www.mofa.gov.sa/Detail.asp?InSectionID=45&InNewsItemID=1742
1) Applicants must have an authorization from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (obtained by their Sponsor in Saudi Arabia). Please note that, both Job title and Nationality must match the authorization received by the Consulate.
2) Applicants should provide a Medical Report (form supplied by the Consulate) duly completed by a competent medical authority and authenticated by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office(Norfolk House (West), 237 Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes MK9 2AH Tel: 01908 295 111). Applicants applying from the Republic of Ireland should legalize their medical report at the Irish Foreign Office in Dublin.
3) Applicants should provide: a letter of introduction from the Sponsor in Saudi Arabia, copy of employment contract, copy of academic qualification certificates and C.V.
4) If previously employed in Saudi Arabia, a letter of NO OBJECTION must be submitted. |

| Mmm. That sounds more hopeful! Just have to hope that the company doesn't require it now! |
