HELLO FELLOW EXPLORERS Smile

I've been offered a position at the above Uni, through Angelina's.

PLEASE, ANYONE WITH INFO ON THE PLACE?

It's my first venture from Europe to China and I don't want it to be a nightmare start.

Anything you have to say about Shandong Province, the City of Linyi or the Uni itself would be thankfully welcome.

MANY MANY THANKS. I plan to arrive this month. Smile

The first question you need an answer to is why a public university is still recruiting people in the middle of October? Has someone done a bunk? Are they having trouble filling the vacancy? Try to talk to a current FT and ask why this is.

Secondly, about the city. I have not lived in Linyi but I spent the weekend there about a year ago. It is relatively underdeveloped and there is not really a great deal to do. The city is small by Chinese standards. It is famed for wood and wood products. There is quite a picturesque river and some local places of interest, notably Rainbow Valley (a theme park) and some nearby underground canyons.

Three hours by train will take you to places like Qingdao or Tai Shan (home of Confucious) so travelling to local tourist spots is not difficult.

The weather is acceptable. The winter is relatively warmby Northern Chinese standards and the summer is not scorching. This part of Shandong can get very windy at times.

As for the university, I really don't know.
