I'm really looking forward to teach EFL and I realize that it's time consuming, but I can always find time to have music in my life.
I'm asking this because I play the guitar, and I can't live without it. When I studied abroad (in Mexico) I took my classical guitar with me. My electric guitar is too valuable for me to travel with (it's an American Standard Stratocaster) and it's like my baby.
I'm not putting any country down, but when I travel to ANY country, I am really concerned about theft. I can't live without my guitar there's no way I'm taking the nice one.
I wonder if anyone on these boards has had a similar dilemna? How do you deal with it? Did you just get a relatively inexpensive one there? I hope someone understands how I feel.
Music is such a big part of my life that the guitar is like another limb to me.

don't fret about the frets. Every country on earth barring perhaps Burkina Faso sells guitars. Take it from me, 1 day in Ouagadougou I was disappointed in  a music store. |

How much do guitars cost in CR, relative to the US? 25% of the American cost for the same type and quality of guitar? 50%?
I too wanted to bring down my Yamaha classical, but thought that I'd be better off buying one in CR as a souvenir, especially with the stupid baggage fees the airlines are hitting us with these days. |

What makes you think I wouldn't be?
The guitar isn't a hobby for me... it's something I've invested a lot of my life in. I teach Spanish now but I always find time for music.

If I were you I would research guitar makers in CA. I would think you could get a real beauty of a handmade acoustic for cheap. Find local bands and ask to sit in. |

If I were you I would research guitar makers in CA. I would think you could get a real beauty of a handmade acoustic for cheap. Find local bands and ask to sit in. |
Thanks! What brand do you like? I bet it's easy to find all genres of bands? |
