Hello I'm planning on traveling to HCMC /Vung tau to find work as an english teacher and I heard that it's best to go down there on a traveling visa and then once you're hired you can simply change it to a business visa. Is that true? is it really that easy? will i have to leave the country to convert it? and also will i still have to pay taxes in America? And how is work opportunities down there right now? Thanks

Re: US taxes, you still have to file a return, but your overseas wages are exempt from US taxes up to around $60-$80,000 annually. You will, however, have to pay taxes in Vietnam, from 12% to 25% depending on your length of stay.

If you find work, your employer can (should) get you a new visa when you sign a contract, although you also have to start the Work Permit process which means providing original documents (ESL cert, Uni degree, criminal background check).
