I stayed at this place about 4 years ago.
It was about 400 baht a night for a room with a fan but it looks like it's gone up to 500 baht.
A bit of a walk from the centre but nothing you can't handle. People were friendly and they'll try to sell you a day trek somewhere but you don't have to do it. Room was clean and the place was quiet.
If you are doing the CELTA then you might want to get well rested before hand instead of staying closer to the bar areas.
Otherwise there are a number of places that you can go to.
Stay away from the bigger overpriced downtown core hotels. Not vary good value IMO.
In general you'll love ChiangMai....good luck on the course |

Yeah!
Both me and my boyfriend will be in Chiang Mai for the CELTA on the 5th. We'll be arriving a little bit early as well... by train from Bangkok! Thanks for starting this thread, we were also wondering where we would stay before the course. Send me a PM if you would like to chat a bit, or maybe meet up before the course... it'd be nice to already know some folks going in, eh? |

Hi all...
I'm also going to be doing the October 5th and very excited about everything! It sounds like it will be a lot of hard work but also a great setting to do the course in. (I'm definitely someone who doesn't benefit from too many distractions!!)
I'm going to arrive in Bangkok a few days before and do some touristy stuff before flying to Chiang Mai. Not sure yet whether I'll arrive on the Saturday to have a night in CM or just get there Sunday and go straight to Nugent Waterside. Would be cool to meet up if I arrive Saturday.
What are your guys names, where are you from, etc?
I'm Stu from the UK and this'll be my first time in Thailand... cannot wait!
Look forward to meeting you all!
Stu
PS, I've found some good guesthouses to stay in CM (well reviewed) - I'll try and dig out the links and post them here
Edit: here's some good accomm links: http://www.travelfish.org/accommodation/thailand/northern_thailand/chiang_mai/chiang_mai/all

hope that helps! |

sawadee ka!
I did the CELTA in Chiang Mai this past February - it IS very hard work, but very rewarding as well! Where are you taking the course? If it is at ECC you will really enjoy the staff and I can recommend some good apartments to stay nearby (better value for better quality) - can have a fully furnished place with couch, table, balcony, AC, pool for 5,000B/month (no lease or contract).
Cheers!

hi nicole
thanks for your message. the 5th october course we are on about is run by IH, so it's at the nugent waterside outside of chiang mai with nice (it looks) accommodation included... cheers anyway!
out of interest, what are you doing now you've finished the celta? |

I am taking the CELTA course in November. I tried to contact you through the board, but I have to post a certain number of times before I will be allowed...or some nonsense like that.
I am really interested to hear specific names of places near the ECC location in Chiang Mai where I can get a decent apartment for around 5,000B/month.
If anyone can list specific places where they had good experiences in this price range, I would really appreciate it.
Be well |
