Hi everyone,
I'll keep my post brief. I'm an EFL teacher currently in Taiwan. I've been doing this for 2 and a half years now, and want to stay another year. I got a TEFL certification before I came over. I feel that I need and want to do some further studies. I would love to become a certified teacher, but just can't see myself doing the whole graduate thing again, blah, blah, blah.. ) I've discovered in searching the net, a possible course that I may want to do. Before I commit myself, I was wondering what the oppertunities for me would be, if I got this qualification. I realize I can't stay in Taiwan forever, and frankly I need to do something where maybe I can settle down somewhere. At the moment things in my home country ain't too rosy, so don't want to go back there. I love teaching, and would like to make it a career. The course I'm thinking of doing is a graduate Diploma in TESOL. Would that be a good move? What are career possibilities with such a qualification?

Hard to say. International schools in Japan seem to prefer people with teaching licenses from their own countries, but also with 2 years teaching there, too. You'd have neither. |

I'd try the following:
A TEFL Dip, like the DELTA
an MA
getting a treaching license
getting published
presenting an workshops, conferences,
publishing things online.
You might as well do the course if you can afford it. I don't see how it can harm your career. |

I fancy doing some of this treaching. (Sorry, NatureGirl - just at a loose end and playing about.) |
