|
|
I have been offered a position teaching at a University of Technology in Shanxi. I have a degree and TEFL Certificate, and Iam new to teaching. I understand a Z visa is the legal working visa. The University has sent an invitation letter for a F visa, and have said there is not enough time to get a Z visa. I have been told by the Chinese Embassy in my country that the name of the company or school needs to be on the invitation letter.
Can anyone who has been issued an invitation letter for a F visa tell me, how the name of the University or company is displayed on the document (Is it by a stamp? Is the name required to be written in English? Can the name be written in Chinese)?
Can anyone tell me how you would explain the business you are doing in China on the F visa if questioned by Airport Immigration when entering China? |

I would assume that they would surely send said invitation on headed notepaper? That is how all Universities in this country send official documents. |

The invitation letter they sent me does not have the University name on it, nor is it in headed notepaper. It just states invitation letter, my name, that is for Educational Consulting & Exchange, and is stamped in Chinese. |

someone's mistaken.
getting the proper paperwork for a Z visa can take time, up to two weeks. but actually getting the Z visa in your passport at a consulate? you can have that done in half a day in some places.
if you're supposed to start work before the end of october, then they're right, there may not be enough time to get the Z visa and associated paperwork arranged. if you're starting work in november or later, then you're being misled.

i've had F visas before. noone at immigration ever asked me any questions about what business i was doing in china. the main hurdle is just getting the visa, and even that isnt difficult (in most cases). |

OP, many chinese aren't exactly pros in their field or any field they get into. from my experience, they have troubles distinguishing what is formal or informal as well. my bet is that this is a private institution within the uni campus, but hell i could be wrong. it could be a separate uni department that's to sort the "better" students to none english part and the "worse" students to the exchange program that you are to teach/facilitate.
in any case, if the chinese consulate accepts your letter, then no pro..right? i'd inquire at the consulate prior to my trip, although they don't always offer enough info too, do they?
One more thought; ask the uni for other fts contact to further inquire.
cheers and beers to all the opportunities the 60 years old country has to offer us |
