Everyone should get Hep A and Tetanus... don't know about the others for Saudi. I never got them for the rest of the Gulf, but because of the many people that arrive for the Haj, maybe others are recommended.

No shots are mandatory (unless you're going for Hajj or Umrah), but Hep A and B and tetanus are recommended.
I never got any, either.
Regards,
John

Hep B used to be endemic in the Kingdom then they started vaccinating primary school children. Pretty difficult to catch though.

I've had loads of anti-tetanus injections, but only after I cut myself. I've never heard of having them as a matter of routine.

Waiting...waiting...waiting...and waiting with not working...even worse! I am going in on the 'new' temp work visa (at the lovely price of $280) and although it's 'suppose' to be an easier process I've ran into a a hiccup with the Enjaz application...discovered I either do it online myself or pay an angency to do it for me. My joy knows no bounds!

The Army has a saying: "mind over matter...if you don't mind it don't matter." Between that saying and the "builds character" one I'm keeping it together...a little...a bit...to a degree. LOL!

Cheers! Smile

I have always followed the standard US procedure of a booster every 10 years. In the US:

The CDC recommends that adults receive a booster vaccine every ten years, and standard care practice in many places is to give the booster to any patient with a puncture wound who is uncertain of when he or she was last vaccinated, or if he or she has had fewer than 3 lifetime doses of the vaccine. The booster may not prevent a potentially fatal case of tetanus from the current wound, however, as it can take up to two weeks for tetanus antibodies to form.

My apologizes for my post showing up on the incorrect subject. I wondered why it never showed up on the one it was intended for. lol. As far as shots go...I think it's great to keep them up-to-date but if it's not 'mandatory' to have them upon arrival...why bother. But that is just me. Cool

Cheers!

I would get a tetanus booster before going, if I were you. I had a colleague who cut his hand and was treated at a major hospital. He requested a tetanus shot and they told him that they didn't have any vaccine. I thought it was rather shocking.

Yes, and it could be rather serious. You do not want to get Tetanus as you end up very sick for months and months... and possibly dying.

Dear veiledsentiments,

" . . . you end up very sick for months and months... and possibly dying."

But in Saudi, would you know the difference? Very Happy

John

There are no vets in Saudi. I had to treat my cat with home made meds.

To the contrary, Slave of the Lathe, vets in saudi, whilst they may not "abound", are certainly to be found...
