Hi,

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel close to the Indonesian embassy in Singapore. I am going over for a social visa, and I believe it takes 2 working days.

Many thanks.

Officially, it takes a couple of working days, but if you ask for "express service" (or use an agent) they can usually do same-day service, for a little bit extra.

If that doesn't work, I like staying at The Inn Crowd (http://www.the-inncrowd.com/). Yeah, it's a hostel, but you can get your own double room with ensuite for $S59, including free internet and breakfast. It's not far from the MRT, and the Indonesian Embassy is not far - a short taxi ride - from the Orchard MRT station.

Is that the same ye olde 'express service' part of which requires a visit to a back room where you have to sit face-to-face in gross humility with some slime-b@ll character to get the service or is the 'express service' now officially sanctioned at the appropriate counter ?

Hello there,

You would be much better off using an agent; its the normal way to do most things in Indonesia and will not cost you much.

I'm not sure if I can post an agent's contact details here so let me know if you like and I can PM you contact details for the one I use.

All you will need to do is drop your passport in the morning and pick it up again at 4.00pm. That would give you time to travel on to Indonesia in the evening. Easy!

Do you already have a job? If you do, the school should be able to arrange things with their agent before you arrive in Singapore to make things easier. Make sure you bring some passport size pictures with a red background.

Thank you for your replies.

Just one thing,

It turns out that the little extra is S$160 for a S$65 social visa (through an agent).
