Hello everyone,

I am moving to Cuernavaca in about 5 weeks and I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.

Here are some questions I have:

I am planning on getting my birth certificate and my 2 degrees apostilled. Is this all I will need (I am not married)?

Do I need to have my criminal background check (state or nationwide)?

Do I need to bring my own curriculum or will my employer provide that? If I need my own can someone recommend a good text?

I would love to meet up with some of you in the df area when I get there. Is there anything I can bring you from the states? I won't have a lot of extra room in my luggage but if there is a book you have been wanting or whatever just let me know.

I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Thank you kindly Smile

You will also need your passport and dont throw away your FMT tourist card. You will be handing in to immigration the tourist card that they give you on the plane down here when you apply for your FM3.

No, you do not need lesson plans. Your boss will provide that or you will prepare a curriculum for the level of English you will be teaching, probably with his input or the input of your colleagues. Of course, if you have one, you can always bring it with you and include the most salient points in the lesson plans.

The prepa or language school will have all the texts you will need. But it wont hurt to bring your own texts to the program. Its unlikely they will be a major component of your course, however. But you can always xerox parts of it for some select lessons.

As for bringing anything in from the states, I am no longer in the DF, so we can rule that out. However, I might suggest a few items for yourself, such as vitamins, shaving blades and other toiletries. I have find these generally slightly more expensive in Mexico than in the US.

As for reading material, keep in mind that it will be difficult to find select books in English. So if you have a favorite author, I would suggest your buying several of his novels to read for the upcoming year, rather than going search throughout the city to buy his novels or order through Amazon.

Another thing you might keep in mind is the possibility of renting a post office mailbox as you might be changing apartments several times in the first year or two. I have always changed apartments several times in the first two years after a new move so it might be to your advantage to rent a box. Remember that there is no forwarding of mail in the Mexican post office system, so if someone sends you a letter to an apartment that you just vacated, it will stay in that building forever.
