I've read CELTA is the "Rolls Royce". I've also read it is only best for teaching adults whereas TESOL is best for teaching non adults. ?????

CELTA has a YL add on, you could do that. TESOL, is simply teaching English to speakers of other langauges, did you mean the Trinity cert?

The big three are CELTA; Trinity, and SIT. They're good to start, but after a while, you'll need a diploma or MA. But honestly, the certs will help you in the classroom, I mean, none of my employers have EVER asked to see my certs, but they have asked to see my BA

As far as I know, the YL isn't an an add-on to CELTA - I think you can do it as a separate course altogether, if teaching Young Learners is what you primarily want the training for.

Cambridge was offering two full-course certificates: the time-honoured CELTA, and the more recent CELTYL; then, there was a shorter YL extension to the CELTA. (Hmm, wonder why there was never an A extension to the CELTYL, might've been some money in that! Laughing

). From a quick Google search/check for 'CELTA YL extension' and a look at the very first (Cambridge) result however, it seems as if the CELTYL is going to be withdrawn from Jan 2011 and only the YL extension remain, though.

Aha. didn't know about the plans that were afoot on the kiddies front. Oh well, doesn't matter much to me. Never could take to teaching the lil 'uns. Litttle pests always pulled my tie and puked on my attache case containing my Market Leader lesson plans, the scamps.
