Does anyone know what New Oriental in Beijing will offer as a full time salary? I worked for their summer camp (30K for 40 days), and have been approached to teach full time. They asked me what salary I wanted...and of course I am sure my request seemed high in their minds...probably made them have a mild stroke actually! Thanks in advance. |

sorry, can't answer your question on salary, but've had an experience with them elsewhere. they've got quite a few branches around as it seems and i've applied ones. they turned me down and said they'd only have a summer camp "opportunity" for me.
30 K for 40 days
forgive me, but it looks like they just wanted to attract some biz for their chinglish teachers there. to my knowledge, they've got some "real academic approach" and we'd have real issues carrying their mission out in their fine classrooms. one of my students told me that they translate hu's speeches and use them for chinglish exams
having said that, we have our own expectations of our jobs and so some may not mind other approach to teaching than the one we are used to..especially if the pay is high enough
cheers and beers to our salaries and that duties too |

I worked for 40 days (with several weekends off) and got the 30K after taxes, along with 6K more in perks (bounus and food). Housing was provided (not great but it was a roof), and I had to pay my own transportation costs (2 hour train ride no big deal). Overall not a bad job, but you did have to work your butt off (like any summer camp). I know that they have a good reputation...but am a bit disappointed in their view of full time salaries.
They told me that they were hard pressed to pay higher salaries to FTs...with the market the way it is right now...and lower student enrollment due to swine flu...and on and on.
They have yet to make a counter offer in terms of salary, so I think that I scared them away...oh well life goes on. |
