Hey everyone,
I am just now beginning to apply for TEFL positions abroad (I'm US native). Should I be having red flag issues with folks asking for a scanned copy of the data page of my passport before a job offer has been made?
It seems to me that my passport should not be required until it's time to process the visa.
Am I being overly cautious? Is it standard practice to submit a passport before any sort of interview? I mean, I have no way of knowing if the person claiming to be the TEFL recruiter for XYZ Academy is not actually smuggling human cargo into the US!

I don't blame you for being cautious, but sending a passport page is not at all unusual. XYZ Academy will have no idea if the person who sent that diploma, etc., is really you!
Besides, as far as the visa, they need the original passport, not a copy; that's a much bigger commitment. |
